Rowing in Motion’s mission is to help athletes and coaches improve their performance by providing them with friction-free measurement tools.

It all started in 2009 with a proof of concept when the iPhone 3G with GPS came around. The Boat App and Coach App have debuted on the App Store in July 2012. The accompanying cloud-based data analytics service has been launched in February 2013. To date, Rowing in Motion is used by more than 400 customers around the world. Some of our customers are olympic champions and their coaches, others enthusiastic hobby rowers that enjoy improving their rowing technique.

In April 2013 Johannes founded the In Motion Software & Sports Technology GmbH and secured a first round of financing to be invested in product and market development.

The Team

This is the team behind Rowing in Motion.

Johannes Rudolph (Founder)

As an athlete on U19 and U17 levels Johannes was frustrated by the lack of objective feedback Athletes could get out of strokewatches and simple impellers. His squad had access to a fully featured measurement system, but they’d use it maybe only once or twice a year, because it was a hell of a lot of work to install in the boat, callibrate it and then it never worked the way it should on the water. Drawing from that experience, he set out to find a better way to provide athletes and coaches alike with an easy to use measurement system that would give them the feedback they need to improve their daily training.

Johannes has a Bachelor’s degree Business Informatics from the Technical University of Darmstadt and is rowing at the Frankfurter Ruderclub Fechenheim 1887 e.V.  on the lovely river Main in Germany.

You can find his more or less up to date bio on stackoverflow. Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me at johannes @ rowing in motion dot com.

Oliver Welther (Developer)

Oliver has joined the company in June 2013 as a working student and is in charge of most software developments today. He’s played a key role in bringing the Rowing in Motion App to Android and is responsible for the technical underpinnings of Rowing in Motion Videos.

Oliver holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technical University of Darmstadt, loves technical challenges and is an avid runner.
